Our referrals policy is designed to ensure that

- we can support as many families as we can with love and dignity

- there is trust from families that they will be treated with transparency and fairness

- there is trust from donors that all given to us will meet identified needs

This policy is designed to guide the work of our network of trusted volunteers and our network of referral partners.

Referrals will be accepted from any established organisation including council services, children centres, NHS services such as midwifery and health visitors, schools, nurseries, community led organisations as well as community faith groups.

Referrals may be employees or volunteers of the referring organisations but must have authority to refer from their senior manager, and all referrals should be made using company emails. We ask all out partners to kindly make all referral via the website form link, sadly we will not be accepting personal referrals nor can we accept self-referrals.

We request our partners make every reasonable effort to understand the family situation to enable them to make a fair an informed decision.

Potential criteria(but not limited to) are on the referral form as ell as detailed here for clarity;

- Low income 

- No recourse to public funds

- Temporary accommodation secured by local authority

- Seeking asylum

- Homeless 

- Disabled child or disabled family member

- Dealing with domestic abuse

- Dealing with substance misuse (currently or in the past , directly resulting in hardship)

- Single parent 

- Other: this category is used for referral partners to use their discretion and judgment by        learning each family situation as an individual case.

We appreciate that we are asking referral partners to make a substantial assessment of need on behalf of our baby bank. If a referral partner is unsure whether a family qualify after reading he above criteria, we would always recommend to discuss with us for guidance. 

In order to ensure that families are seen without high barriers to entry we are happy for referral partners to use a reasonable doubt assessment of need.

Once items have been gifted onto a family, they are theirs to use and dispose of as they wish. We do however encourage families to donate back any items that are no longer needed, so that they can be re-gifted out to more families-further our mission of bringing local families together to support one another.

For example-family who have been gifted a buggy for a new-born and might later need a larger buggy for toddler, might be sked  if they can bring the new-born buggy back for swap. This is of course a suggestion not a rule or a condition of gifting families any items.

Once discussed we will send you a form to fill in on behalf of the family to be sent to us for reference. We will aim to help every single family should they meet the above criteria.
